I am Clayton VandenBerg
…. and I used to work as a chemist – a left brained type if there ever was one
I never even picked up a camera until many years ago when Carole upgrades hers and gave me her old camera. At first it was just something to do instead of waiting around for her to finish taking pictures. Then something happened – I discovered that photography was fun and interesting. It was a surprise to find that I actually enjoyed it. I like the technical aspects a lot – the gear, the camera settings, and some of the advanced techniques. But I discovered that I also like using the right side of my brain and being creative. And as an extra bonus: I no longer stand around (somewhat impatiently) watching and waiting – now I’m part of the action … creating images for homes, hotels and offices as well as for use on cell phone cases, tote bags, mugs, and more
Lastly – a little trivia, the name VandenBerg (van den berg) means “from the mountain” in Dutch. It seems that a long time ago, the family business entailed traveling via ship to the British highlands to secure rock and soil for building dikes back in Holland. Maybe that’s where I got my love of travel … and what’s travel without photography, right?
